Key changes introduced by the Directive on the energy performance of buildings (EPBD)

On May 28, 2024, the European Commission's Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) 2024/1275 (the "Directive") came into force. Its purpose is to help meet the European Commission's ambitious goals of achieving carbon neutrality in the building sector across the European Union by 2050.

According to the Directive, key roles in reducing emissions from buildings are played by the use of renewable energy sources for heating and cooling, the renovation of buildings to lower their energy consumption, and the development of infrastructure for sustainable mobility. The Directive will therefore affect virtually everyone—from developers to building owners. An overview of the specific obligations introduced by this Directive is provided below (in Czech only).
