Junior Lawyer, Corporate
"What I enjoy most is the variety and unpredictability of the work. I enjoy working through new and sometimes complex issues and understanding how they play out in practice."

I joined Clifford Chance in 2023 as a student and have been working as a junior lawyer in the Corporate practice since 2024. Before joining the firm, I worked at a law firm and gained additional practical experience through several legal internships and moot court competitions, alongside my studies at Charles University in Prague, including an Erasmus semester at the University of Barcelona in 2023.

My advice

My advice would be not to worry about knowing everything from day one. Focus on understanding what is actually going on, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to say you need a moment to think. It turns out that is part of the job.

Life at Clifford

Everyday life at the firm is varied - some days are document-heavy, others are call-heavy, and some are both at the same time. There is a strong sense of collaboration, both within the Prague team and across offices, which makes even complex matters feel manageable. People are approachable and willing to help, which makes a real difference, especially early on. Also, you quickly learn that “quick call” can mean many things.

The people

The people in my team are one of the highlights for me. I am surrounded by colleagues who are genuinely excellent at what they do, which naturally motivates you to improve, while still being approachable and willing to help. That balance creates an environment where you can develop quickly without feeling overwhelmed. There is also a strong sense of teamwork, particularly during busier periods, when everyone pulls together.

Learning and key skills

A big part of the role is being able to make sense of complex information and turn it into something clear and usable. I have developed this by working on real matters and learning from colleagues along the way. Organisation and the ability to prioritise are also important, especially when several “urgent” tasks appear at once. In my opinion, it is mostly about keeping things structured and not losing sight of what actually matters.
